18/04/2025 – Multiwire drawing and braiding bobbin rewinding

Perfect solutions

Maschinenfabrik Niehoff and its subsidiary Niehoff Endex North America Inc. (NENA) display at the “Interwire 2025” a rewinding line type “ARP 630” pay-off + “SMB 4” and a multiwire drawing line type “MMH 121 + RM 201”.

Niehoff After Sales Service offerings such as “Niehoff Original+” components and the digital service platform “myNiehoff” will also be on show at the booth. They help to further increase the productivity and production reliability of Niehoff machines and are part of Niehoff’s service concept “Niehoff LifeCycle+”, which combines numerous services. In this way, Niehoff ensures that the machines can be used to their optimum potential throughout their life cycle.

The machines on display

The new four-spindle braiding bobbin rewinding machine type “SMB” is a further development of the “DSA-4” model and designed to respool wire drawn on multiwire or fine wire drawing lines onto braiding bobbins for braiding machines. Four bobbins fed automatically from a magazine can be spooled at the same time enabling an “SMB” to continuously supply around eight to ten braiding machines with bobbins.

One of the “SMB”s main innovations is that it can work at a speed of up to 800m/min, 200m/min more than its predecessor. In addition, the magazine for full braiding bobbins on the “SMB” are mounted at perfect ergonomic height. The operator is not forced to bend down to remove the filled bobbins.

The wires in the wire bundle are largely arranged in parallel and have no differences in length. Thus, the bundles can be processed into high-quality braids at high braiding speeds with a very low wire break frequency.

The “SMB” rewinding machine is designed for round or flat wire made of copper, aluminum, iron, stainless steel and textile materials. The digital service platform “myNiehoff” allows to monitor machine and process data online.

The multiwire drawing line “MMH 121 + RM 201” on display is foreseen to draw 16 wires simultaneously from an entrance diameter of 2.05mm (AWG 12) to a finished diameter of 0.227mm ... 0.73mm (AWG 31 ... 21) at a speed of up to 40m/s (7,874fpm). Some features of the line are a compact design enabling space saving use of the production area, high productivity, and a low wire break rate.

Depending on the wire diameter, the “RM 201” type resistance annealer uses the field-proven 2/3-zone-system with or without wire reheating. The results are optimum wire drying, economical energy consumption and thus considerable savings of energy and energy costs. A random generator ensures an optimum wire movement. As a result, wear on the contact tubes is spread more evenly enabling a longer contact tube life.

Machine and process data monitoring is possible online via the digital service platform “myNiehoff”.

The wires drawn on this drawing line show very homogeneous properties and tight tolerances over their entire length. Such wires can be processed to multiwire bundles with outstanding characteristics and are ideal for final applications or downstream processing into high-quality strands, ropes or braids.

The Niehoff Group – complete solutions from a single source

With more than 70 years of experience in the wire and cable industry, Maschinenfabrik Niehoff develops and builds machinery – with the exception of extruders – for the production of non-ferrous wires and their processing into automotive, power, data and special cables. Niehoff pays great attention to the longevity of its products and is committed to manufacturing machinery that is characterized by reliability, process stability, high productivity, energy and materials efficiency, and reduced CO2 emissions. Niehoff is certified by the German Environmental Auditors Board EMAS, belongs to the Blue Competence sustainability initiative of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and with regard to its corporate social responsibility (CSR) cooperates with the international platform for sustainability ratings EcoVadis. Niehoff Group has a workforce of around 1300 employees worldwide and is comprised of its headquarters, its branch plants at Leuterschach (Germany) and NST in Badalona-Barcelona (Spain), manufacturing subsidiaries in Brazil, the US, the Czech Republic, India, China, and Sweden along with sales and service centers in Japan, Singapore, and Mexico.

Niehoff started its business activities in North America in 1985 with the foundation of Niehoff of America, Inc. Niehoff Endex North America, Inc. (NENA) emerged by the grouping of Niehoff of America and Endex, the former Bekaert Engineering of North America, in 1999. NENA has own manufacturing and engineering capabilities and is responsible for the sales, supply, and service of the entire Niehoff product range plus ENDEX products in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
