14/10/2025 – Rewinding system for optimized logistics processes with drum weights up to 10 tons
Heavy drums - efficiently rewound
Kurre Systems, a leading provider of customized machinery solutions, specializes in meeting the unique needs of its clients. A merger of Kurre Special Machine Engineering and Siebe Engineering, the company has been delivering innovative, tailor-made solutions to the wire and cable industry for decades.
“One of our clients required a solution for efficiently handling variable (short) lengths of multiple products with minimal space requirements,” explains Thorsten Wilde, Sales Manager at Kurre Systems. “Our solution is a portal-style winding station that excels in both short setup times and product-friendly laying. The system has been designed with compactness in mind and is optimized to handle a broad range of spool sizes,” adds Wilde.
Short setup times, quick changeover, and wide spool range
On the unwind side, drums and spools are placed directly with their transport frame. The complete process of the pay-off, combined with precise sensors, ensures that the drum is automatically positioned in the correct winding position. This allows for efficient preparation of subsequent orders during the current processing run.
The movable winding arms offer exceptional flexibility for handling drums and spools, with widths ranging from 800mm to 2,000mm and flange diameters from 1,400mm to 3,000mm. The winder is capable of handling up to 10t of spool weight, making it suitable for large, heavy-duty applications.
Minimal space requirements and product-friendly laying
The compact design of the winding station significantly reduces space requirements. However, this presented a challenge in terms of handling sharp angles during the winding process. The solution was a specially engineered laying table located at the center of the system, capable of both vertical movement and tilting. This, in combination with pneumatic product guide rollers, ensures smooth and gentle handling with-out damaging the product due to harmful angles. The calibrated “MW80” length measurement system en-sures precise winding of the required product lengths.
Minimal personnel effort and extensive product range
The automated loading system allows the station to be operated efficiently by just two people. While one person transports the starting drums, the other can start and monitor the winding process. The system han-dles products with diameters ranging from 15mm to 80mm, operating at speeds of 10m/min to 200m/min. “With this machine configuration and flexible parameters, we were able to deliver a system that perfectly aligns with our customer’s logistics processes,” concludes Thorsten Wilde.
