It pulled abrasive past the wire under partial vacuum rather than firing it from a wheel or via compressed air, and it left a surface clean enough that treated rod could be redrawn seven times on a single application of lubricant. No pickling, no acid, no effluent to dispose of.

Norman's son, Stewart, went on to found Vapormatt in 1978, and it’s his family's engineering approach, solving genuine industrial problems with a controlled, chemical-free process, that we still apply today through our in-line Profelis wet blasting system. The underlying technology has changed since 1968; our Profelis system uses wet blasting rather than dry vacuum descaling. What’s not changed is the problem we’re solving: getting a wire or cable surface clean and consistent, in-line, without damaging it or slowing the line down. Today's systems handle a wider range of materials, from aluminium and copper feeder wire to memory wire to overhead power cable, with better control and abrasive recovery than the 1968 machines could offer.

The Ashworth family continue to run the business to this day, carrying that same engineering approach into its third and fourth generations.

Over 50 years on from that first coverage, we’re still solving problems for the same industry. That’s what happens when a company sticks at solving an industrial need and keeps getting better at it.
