Anyone wanting to familiarise themselves with this highly specialised field had to rely on only a few sources of information and, above all, on personal exchange within the industry.

 This made the German trade journal DRAHT and its international sister publication WIRE all the more valuable to me. Their technical articles and research reports provided insights into new materials, processes and technological developments. At the same time, they offered information about the activities of our customers, competitors and research institutions. Especially for a young employee, this was an important way to understand the wider context of the wire industry and to continuously expand one’s technical knowledge.

 Since then, machines, markets and the ways in which information is obtained have changed fundamentally. Today, technical information from around the world can be accessed within seconds. However, a carefully edited trade journal still offers something that is difficult to replace with an internet search alone: a knowledgeable selection of relevant topics, reliable reports from research and industry, and a focused overview of developments within the sector.

 Although the issues have become slimmer over the years, the attention they receive at Fuhr has remained unchanged. Even today, every new issue is browsed through and passed around among colleagues. Time and again, we find articles, company news and technical developments that are both interesting and valuable for our daily work.

 As a third-generation family-owned mechanical engineering company, we also see many parallels between the history of Fuhr and that of WIRE. Both have their roots in the years following the Second World War – a period shaped by new beginnings, pioneering spirit and entrepreneurial courage. Since then, both have accompanied an industry that is constantly evolving while still depending on long-term personal relationships and intensive professional exchange.

We warmly congratulate WIRE on its 75th anniversary. Personally, I associate the magazine with more than three decades of professional development and many valuable insights into our industry. We wish the entire publishing team continued success and a keen sense for the topics that matter to the international wire and cable industry, and we look forward to many more issues in the years ahead.
