Abul Khair Steel sets world record with SMS rebar mill
Abul Khair Steel Limited has commissioned the world’s fastest rebar rolling mill supplied by SMS Group in Sitakunda, Chattogram, Bangladesh.

The new facility, capable of producing 1.6 million tons of deformed bars annually, supports the country’s rapidly growing construction sector. During commissioning, the mill achieved a world record speed of 55.04m/s when producing 2mm x 10mm bars.
SMS supplied the complete rolling mill from a single source, integrating advanced systems such as the “EcoFlame+ low?NOx burner“, “Elotherm” induction furnace for thermal efficiency, and the “Ebros” endless bar rolling system, which raises productivity by up to 8%. Additional innovations include “Meerdrive“ blocks with individual drives reducing wear by 60% and the “HSD” delivery system ensuring consistent high?speed performance.
According to SMS Group, the project demonstrates how cutting?edge technologies can combine speed, reliability and sustainability, helping Abul Khair Steel to meet the construction boom while lowering both “Capex” and “Opex”.
