Wire expertise rooted in tradition

Wire is far more than a simple industrial product; it is the invisible backbone of our everyday infrastructure. Whether in the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering, production lines would come to a standstill without highly specialised wire solutions.

Within this demanding environment, the Künne Group has established itself as one of the leading players. Guided by the principle “Synergy. Solutions. Partnership.”, the group combines centuries of tradition with state-of-the-art manufacturing technology to deliver solutions for nearly 20,000 products used in everyday life.

H. Künne steel wire works: 300 years of expertise

The H. Künne Steel Wire Works in Hemer draws on an impressive 300 years of experience in wire drawing. Operating under the motto “Quality. Diversity. Efficiency.”, this continuity forms the foundation for a level of quality that meets the demands of a discerning international customer base.

The product range in Hemer extends from high-carbon steel grades with diameters from 0.2mm to 10.0mm to low-carbon grades such as cold heading wire and chain-quality wire up to 13.0mm. Of particular note is the specialisation in rope wire, spring steel wire, and messenger wire for fiber-optic cables – key components of modern digital infrastructure. Cross-site knowledge transfer within the group ensures that individual customer specifications are implemented with the highest degree of precision.

Synergies between tradition and innovation

The strength of the Künne Group is largely derived from the strategic consolidation of expertise. A key milestone was the merger of the long-established companies Drahtwerk Altena and Wagener Stahldraht in 2016, forming today’s Drahtwerk Wagener. With more than 150 years of experience at the Altena site, the plant focuses on the production of spring steel wire and steel wire in accordance with the highest national and international standards, living by the motto “Innovation. Precision. Reliability.”

The objective in Altena is clearly defined: creating added value through process optimization. Intensive needs analysis ensures optimal processability of the wire. For customers, this translates into higher machine speeds, reduced tool wear, and the consistent avoidance of production downtime. The portfolio includes specialized solutions that are indispensable in sectors such as agriculture and the automotive industry.

Robust safety: DWH wire rope works Hemer

The performance portfolio is completed by DWH Wire Rope Works Hemer. Since 1999, this specialist has been manufacturing high-quality steel wire ropes at the Hemer site. With its proprietary brand “Taurus”, DWH has built a strong reputation for durability and reliability. The product range is extensive and addresses a wide variety of safety requirements – from fine-stranded aircraft control cables, where precision is paramount, to heavy-duty crane ropes designed for the highest loads. “Taurus” specialty wire ropes are available from diameters of 6 mm and can be individually customized, including special coatings, rope loops, or precisely fitting end connections. Short delivery times and a high level of commitment make DWH an indispensable partner in industries where safety allows no compromise.

Conclusion: A group shaping the future

The Künne Group demonstrates that the German wire industry remains future-proof through the combination of tradition and modern management structures. The integration of sites such as Altena and the cultivation of long-standing expertise in Hemer create a dynamic and resilient network. For customers of the Künne Group, this collaboration delivers one key benefit: economic efficiency and, consequently, enhanced competitiveness. Through synergies within the group, customers receive not merely a product, but a technically sophisticated system solution that measurably increases the efficiency of their own production. Wire from Künne does not just move machines – it moves markets.
