Why stranded wire is preferred over the solid version

Stranded Copper wires are definitely the most preferred choice of metal make. No other metal is equipped with so many properties which are conducive for making wires used for electrical purposes. Copper is known for its moderate conductivity which helps in transferring electricity with low voltage.

When multiple wires are bunched or stranded together to give extra strength or flexibility, we get stranded wires. Stranded Copper wires are definitely the most preferred choice of metal make. No other metal is equipped with so many properties which are conducive for making wires used for electrical purposes. Copper is known for its moderate conductivity which helps in transferring electricity with low voltage. Copper also becomes an ideal metal for electrical wiring due to its tensile strength, electrical conductivity, ability to resist corrosion and creep, durability, longevity, easy to install and solder and its thermal conductivity. A stranded copper wire happens to be combination of copper wires twisted together which are most suitably used in equipment that faces lots of vibration and movement.

Stranded wire has proved to be more flexible than the solid wire of the same cross-sectional area. The wires are stronger and provide more durability than the solid wires and have better conductivity than the solid wire. Further: Stranded wire is more reliable as it comprises of many strands. Even if one strand is cut or damaged, the wire still remains intact: and stranded wire of the same diameter as the solid wire will experience more resistance.

Stranded copper wires are being used in commercial as well as domestic usage. These wires are used in circuit boards and electronic applications which are intricately constructed where bending and twisting of wires is required. Their malleability makes them the most apt wires to be used in vehicles or robots where more movement is experienced. Their initial installation cost more than a solid wire but in the long run they will last to give lifelong services.

Areas of applications for stranded copper wire

It is indeed important that before investing in your wires and cables, you have a fair knowledge of the manufacturer from whom you plan to make your purchases. It must be understood here that these are important and necessary investments where a lot depends on the quality and specifications of your wires, cables, rods, etc. Your choice cannot be random. Choosing the wire manufacturer must be decided on some parameters.

1. The expertise of the manufacturer: Each of them may have their own areas of specialisation.

 2. Experience which can be found out by knowing the years that the company has spent in this field and the kind of suppliers and clients it has in the market.

 3. The range of products which are available to meet your requirements.

 4. The kind of raw material used in manufacturing the products i.e. the purity of metal is a crucial factor in bringing the superior quality of end products.
