Herzogenaurach/Germany (Schaeffler) – With this acquisition, Schaeffler intends to advance its expertise in electric motor construction and thus the implementation of its e-mobility strategy. “The acquisition puts us in a position to seamlessly map the entire industrialisation of electric motor construction in the future and to close the last existing technology gap in the manufacture of rotors and stators,” says Klaus Rosenfeld, Chairman of the Board of Management of Schaeffler AG. In 2017, the owner-managed company Elmotec Statomat generated sales of around 40 million Euros and currently employs 200 people. With individually scalable winding technologies, the company has achieved a leading position in the manufacture of electric motors. In particular, rod wave winding is regarded as the leading technology for electro mobility in terms of power density, efficiency and efficient mass production.

“With 13 patent families containing over 50 individual protection rights worldwide, Elmotec Statomat has already demonstrated high performance and innovative strength in the past,” states Jochen Schroeder, head of the Schaeffler e-mobility division. His company had already acquired Compact Dynamics GmbH – a development specialist for electric drive concepts – at the end of 2016. With the takeover of Elomtec Statomat, these competencies are complemented by the know-how for the mass production of stators for electric motors.

“With Schaeffler as an innovative family-owned company with pronounced manufacturing expertise, we have found the ideal partner for the further development of our technologies. Schaeffler has comprehensive expertise and capacities in tool and special machine construction as well as extensive experience in safeguarding and industrialising technologies. Together, we see considerable growth potential in the manufacture of systems for electric motor construction and electric motors,” said Sadik Sadiku, managing partner of Elmotec Statomat GmbH.
