24/03/2026 – Machinery for producing and processing non-ferrous wires
A wide variety of technological innovations and automation
Drawing on 75 years of experience in the wire and cable industry, Maschinenfabrik Niehoff manufactures machinery for producing and processing non-ferrous wires into automotive, power, data and special cables, with the exception of extruders.
At „wire 2026“ in Düsseldorf Maschinenfabrik Niehoff will exhibit:
– a new generation of “MMH” multiwire lines
– “NPS” double spooler type “SV 403 D”
– “BMV 16” and “BMV 24” vertical braiding machines
– “SMB 4” spooling machine for bobbins with robot
– the “LifeCycle+” service protfolio and
– the new “shop.niehoff.de” web shop,
– HFSAB will present a die block for a horizontal lead extruder with a semi-automatic centering device.
All machines are operated via the “NMI“ (Niehoff Machine Interface). This network-compatible touchscreen provides straightforward navigation and is supported by Siemens Unified Panels, which offer new functions including explanatory videos. With the new digital web portal “myNiehoff”, which is the central part of the “Niehoff LifeCycle+” service portfolio, users can monitor machine and process data online.
Description of the exhibits
In the “Innovation Cube” a new generation of “MMH” multiwire lines will be presented.
The “NPS” double spooler type “SV 403 D” on display is part of the “Niehoff Package System” (NPS). The spooler is completety automised with fully automated spool change over, wrapping of the outer cable end and labelling with bar code, QR code and RFID. Spools with faults (eg. sparking leaks) will be sorted out. The spooler can reliably operate and carry out the changeover from full to empty spools at a maximum production speed of 2,400m/min, achieving a 30% increase in production output compared to its predecessor, the “SV 402 D”. The spooling direction can be freely selected.
The “NPS” is an efficient and well-proven packaging system for automotive wires. These spoolers are designed for non-stop operation with all types of extrusion lines and for spooling insulated wires from these lines onto NPS spools. The “NPS” traverse pattern ensures secure and stable packages on the spools, regardless of whether they are full or partially empty.
“NPS” spools enable tangle-free overhead pay-off at maximum speeds into downstream processes. Empty spools can be dismantled and stacked inside each other. This means that they require significantly less space for return transport than comparable conventional spools. After being returned to the cable manufacturer, “NPS” spools can be quickly and easily reassembled, reloaded, and reused for dozens of cycles.
Vertical lever-arm rotary braiding machines
Several innovations will be presented with the vertical lever-arm rotary braiding machines, types “BMV 16” and “BMV 24”.
The “BMV 16”, which has 16 bobbin carriers, will be shown in operation with a new, fully automated bobbin supply system. This setup combines an SMB bobbin winder for braiding bobbins, an “automated guided vehicle” (AGV) type, and a robot system. The robot collects up to 16 fully rewound braiding bobbins from the “SMB” bobbin winder. It then moves to the braider, removes the empty bobbins, and places them into the empty-bobbin magazine on the “AGV”. Then, it inserts full bobbins from the “AGV” into the braider. All steps are coordinated through direct communication between the robot and the machines involved. The highly automated loading and unloading process reduces manual handling and increases productivity.
The “BMV 24” type braiding machine is equipped with 24 bobbin carriers and is now available with Niehoff’s proven “Wire Tension Control” (WTC) system. The “WTC” system ensures that all braiding wires are applied to the product with uniform tension, from full bobbin to empty bobbins. This results in consistently high product quality and perfect shielding.
“WTC” maintains constant wire tension throughout the entire bobbin cycle, eliminating the need for manual adjustment of the braking force during production. This makes the process more stable, and significantly increases productivity. For demanding materials, WTC helps to avoid excessive tension at the end of the bobbin, reducing the risk of wire breaks. Additionally, the system allows for the active recording of applied braking forces. This creates valuable process transparency and supports audits or quality documentation requirements.
Wide range of services
Niehoff provides a wide range of services across the entire machine life cycle, brought together in the extended service portfolio “Niehoff LifeCycle+”. This program is based on the four stages: commission, operate, support, and modernize.
The “commission” stage covers a customized installation service. Customers can choose between various services, including commissioning only, supervision of installation or a complete turn-key project. Benefits include optimum start-up conditions and a quick start of high -quality production.
The “operate” stage focuses on spare parts supply and the new webshop, as well as on-site customer services. Registered customers can access the new shop.niehoff.de web shop via the myNIEHOFF web portal. It provides customized 24/7 access to information about the availability and prices of spare parts and enables the quick identification of the right component. Specialists provide personalized advice for efficient spare parts supply and optimal inventory management. The second part of this stage offers NIEHOFF customers service contracts that cover various on-site services provided by experts throughout the entire service life of the machines.
The “support” stage involves expert support via Email. Benefits include efficient remote support, guaranteed response time, and monitoring and optimization for maximum output.
The “modernize” stage, typically the second phase of a machine’s life, focuses on modernization, mechanical overhaul and new electrical switch cabinets. These services support the sustainable further development of equipment. Benefits include improved energy efficiency, new electrical components and a 12-month warranty.
All service measures offered by Niehoff help users produce in an energy-, resource- and cost-efficient way while remaining flexible and competitive. Visitors to the Niehoff booth can see the “Niehoff LifeCycle+“ portfolio for themselves and discover how its features can transform their production processes. They will also learn about the digital “myNiehoff” web portal and how to get the most out of it.
Die block of a horizontal lead extruder
H. Folke Sandelin AB (HFSAB), one company of the Niehoff Group, will be showcasing the die block of a horizontal lead extruder that is fitted with a semi-automatic centering device.
HFSAB is the leading international manufacturer of horizontal lead extruders for sheathing cables that require a perfect barrier against water, moisture or chemicals, especially HV- and EHV subsea cables. HFSAB also manufactures the CRRS (Cable Repair and Recovery System) and the cable stripping machine SM-H. Both machines can remove individual cable layers without causing any damage to the subsequent layer below. As a result, enabling the outer jacket, lead sheath, or triple layer XLPE to be re-applied and the cable repaired. The range of services also includes the modernization of HFSAB machines.
