Stranders and cablers

Flymca is the Spanish very well-known manufacturer building top class rotating machines (stranders and cablers) for production of electrical cables as well as steel ropes.

The company builds traditional stranders and cablers (tubular, rigid, planetary stranders, bow skip stranders/cablers, drum twisters, and all type of equipment present in complete lines such as take-ups, pay-offs, caterpillars, capstans, taping heads, PP yarn applicators…).

Flymca continues focusing on designing and construction of specialized and customized machinery for large-scale stranding, cabling, screening and armoring purposes, with an emphasis on machinery for very special cables such as submarine, offshore and umbilical cables.

Since the increased demand of submarine cables production over the last years, the company has focused their efforts on specialized machinery for this market.

Armoring lines are being realized in two different configurations:

– large tubular stranders for multiple number of steel wires with bullhead, prepared for the FO core paying off that avoids any torsion on the FO element or tube. Last tubular strander produced by Flymca counts with 36 bobbins, Ø630mms.

– large planetary armoring lines for heavy power transmission cables produced on huge, large and heavy-duty machines with a high number of steel wires, based on single or double wires layer design. Flymca has produced planetary armoring lines up to 214 wires. These systems are used through a single or a dual planetary cage working in tandem. Additionally, these machines incorporate automatic bobbins loading systems prepared to minimize the downtime associated with bobbins’ changeovers and heavy caterpillars for huge pulling capacity.

Regarding the planetary armoring line, Flymca is happy to announce the installation and commissioning of their last and largest armoring planetary line for the submarine market. The project is focused on the cables for energy, composed of 2 planetary stranding cages, 96-112 bobbins, for Ø800 mms bobbins. It also includes 6 additional bobbins Ø1000 mms for fiber optic elements. It works with galvanized high carbon steel wires round section Ø3-7mm, or alternatively flat wire, from 6x1.5 to 13x5 mm. The line operates with several systems to apply high temperature bitumen with several PP yarn applicators and tape. The machine has a maximum pulling capacity of 40T and is customized to reach a production speed of 15m per minute. It includes 4 loading robots.

Moreover, in response to the rising need of submarine cables, there is a significant demand for robust cross-sectional conductors manufactured in rigid stranding lines using up to 156 wires or more. These stranding machines are equipped with automatic bobbins’ loading systems.

The machines are prepared for round and trapezoidal wire sections. It has substantial compacting systems and devices for applying water-blocking by yarns and powder. The automatic bobbins’ loading system allows to get an important downtime reduction and significant productivity increase, it also assures the safety of the operators working on the line.

Flymca is also producing six (6) tubular stranders at the same time. All of them designed for the ACSR market. These 1+8 tubular stranders can rotate at 1000 rpm and are excellent for aerial cables.

Flymca has been focusing on these specialized machines, but also continues producing equipment for railway, communication and other traditional markets such as, for instance, steel ropes. After its 25th anniversary, Flymca shows optimism about the future market during 2025 and beyond. The company has expanded its facilities and continues increasing specialized and skilled manpower.

Flymca took part at the wire/Tube fair at Monterrey, Mexico, last February 2025 and also was present last May 2025, at Interwire in Atlanta, GA/USA, with their partner Niehoff Endex North America. They will be also be present at wire Southeast Asia in Bangkok, from 17th to 19th September 2025.
