13/12/2024 – Enhance sustainability and product quality
Swiss Steel Group invests in innovative technology
The Swiss Steel Group has made a significant investment in the modernization of its Finkl Steel - Sorel production facility in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. This strategic investment aims to further enhance productivity, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
The modernization includes replacing the existing 5,000-ton press with a state-of-the-art 6,700-ton press and switching from a natural gas-powered forging furnace to a more efficient electric furnace. With the new 6,700-ton press, Swiss Steel Group is poised to improve product quality while simultaneously improving capabilities. The increased press capacity allows for more efficient processing, significantly lowering the CO2 footprint of the entire operation. The new press is not only more powerful, but also more precise, resulting in decreased material waste. This investment underscores Swiss Steel Group’s commitment to providing superior and sustainable solutions. The transition to an electric furnace is another step toward decarbonization, enabling customers to achieve their own climate goals. “We are committed to being a world leader in forged tool steel by continuously improving our quality, productivity, and capacity,” said Frank Koch, CEO of Swiss Steel Group. “This project is a critical step in securing our operations in Quebec for the future while also contributing to global decarbonization efforts.”
The team working on the new press is very proud of this innovation and looks forward to the high-quality production it will bring. Together with the Group’s CEO, they celebrated the completed installation as one of the year’s highlights. The investment was partially supported by both the Canadian and Quebec governments, highlighting the importance of this initiative for the regional industry and the global environmental strategy.
With the modernization of the facilities at Finkl Steel - Sorel, the Swiss Steel Group is making a strong statement for the future of steel production: Innovation, sustainability, and top quality go hand in hand.
