Submarine cables for HV and FO

Flymca, the well-known Spanish manufacturer has been changing its internal technical departments to gain specialisation and improve its customer service.

Flymca’s sales are mostly 100% to cut edge companies from European countries as well as USA but also standard equipment for advanced companies from north of Africa, Middle East, South America and Southeast Asia.

Its production focus continues centred on its top class standard equipment for stranding and cabling, machines with high recognition in the market due to its productivity, durability and reliability as the rigid stranders, bow cablers or skip stranders, tubulars, planetaries and drum twisters.

At the same time, a second focus is placed on the customised equipment, that is machinery specifically developed for a customer that looks for product that fulfils all its specifications, mainly projects for production of special cables such as off-shore, submarine, umbilical and wire steel ropes for oil and gas industries amongst others.

2023 and 2024 are being years that the submarine cables for HV (high-voltage) and FO (fiber optics) are pushing so hard.

The main equipment that is being required are:
– The rigid stranders for bobbins diameter 630mm or 800mm, prepared for production up to 4,000mm2 with round, rectangular or trapezoidal wires and multiple number of options as water blocking compound applicators, tape and yarn applicators and more...
– The armouring lines are the second type of requirement that is filling the production capacity to its limits. Machines prepared for bobbins diameter 800mm or 1,000mm with a multiple number of them. Cages prepared to work in planetary, rigid or variable modes with automatic change over, cages with automatic bobbin loading systems that accelerate their replacement. Those lines include tape, PP-yarn and bitumen applicators with high pulling capacity caterpillars.

The projects for aerial cable continue being an important part of its sales as the non-stop bow cabling production including accumulator with specific systems for taping and cutting the cables to minimise the stopping times as well as several rigid stranding lines with complete automated process.

The industrial market situation is not easy right now for manufacturers of new equipment such as Flymca. The pandemic caused a total stoppage in all productive sectors three years ago, which has caused many problems in supply chains worldwide. Subsequently, the start of the war last year, put an end to the situation that affected the supply of most industrial products: more expensive steels in percentages that currently range between 25% to 60% and that have dragged down the rest of components, as well as the serious problem of electronic parts that has caused a great shortage in all related products.

All this situation has generated a global race to get hold of the few products that are available on the market, increasing drastically prices and deliveries. Finally, there other unsolved problems, such as the transports, both by road and by sea, which cause long delays that generate late deliveries in the supply of parts and components. It is likely that these problems will take time to be solved.
