SMS delivers world first RH Ladle Rocker–FvE combination to JSW Steel
JSW Steel’s latest RH unit from SMS group introduces Ladle Rocker and Fast Vessel Exchange technologies in one system, setting a new benchmark in secondary metallurgy. The world first installation boosts throughput and plant availability while ensuring premium steel quality for demanding industries.

At its Vijayanagar Works in India, JSW Steel has commissioned the world’s first 350t Ruhrstahl Heraeus (RH) plant featuring a Ladle Rocker combined with Fast Vessel Exchange from SMS Group. The unique setup increases productivity, steel grade flexibility and operational safety. The RH unit enables annual production of up to three million tons of vacuum-treated steel for sectors such as automotive, construction and energy.
By integrating automated ladle tilting with rapid vessel replacement, the system reduces exchange times, extends service life and supports faster grade changes. An additional FeSi bunker improves alloy supply and process stability. SMS group and JSW Steel have previously collaborated on two RH installations at Dolvi Works, confirming the proven reliability of the 350t-design. This latest project strengthens both partners’ technological leadership in high-quality steel production.
