Changzhou Dongfang Special Steel produces 3 million metric tons of different long products annually. The portfolio comprises alloyed carbon steels, spring steels, ball bearing steels, high-pressure boiler tube steels, and gear steels among others. The focus is on SBQ products for demanding processing industries. In the city of Changzhou, the steel producer operates currently three mill lines – one mill line for producing steel profiles and two mill lines for producing steel bars with diameters between 20mm and 150mm.

The proven 3-roll technology from KocksS is the key to maximum flexibility and productivity of the production process in the brand new 800,000t/a SBQ rolling mill after 21 stands in H/V arrangement. In the small bar mill line, the “RSB 370++/4” has been designed according to the individual requirements of Changzhou Dongfang Special Steel in order to produce straight bars in a finished size range from Ø 20.00mm to 80.00mm with the tightest dimensional tolerance.

The scope of supply further includes the remote control for stand and guide adjustments, the equipment for the roll shop, and the hardware and software for the further advanced “Bamicon Octopus” that assists operators in the stand and guide preparation and supports the entire tooling process. The commissioning of the new small bar mill line including the RSB® 5.0 with the further advanced design is scheduled for the end of 2024.
