Celsa modernizes wire rod mill with Primetals
Celsa France has successfully upgraded the finishing end of its wire rod mill in Bayonne with technology from Primetals Technologies. The modernization replaces a third party installation that caused frequent unplanned downtimes.
Primetals Technologies received the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) from Celsa France for the new 10-stand Morgan Vee No Twist Mill and a 1,200mm Reform Tub. The mill, operating at up to 105m/s, ensures high vailability and product quality across low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel grades. Maintenance costs and roll-change times have been significantly reduced. A 3-Hi speed increaser gearbox connects the new mill to the existing drive position, demonstrating system flexibility and compatibility. The new Reform Tub with patented ring distributor minimizes coil height, prevents stray rings, and ensures tangle?free payoff, reducing downstream delays. With this investment, Celsa France improves production stability and efficiency. The Celsa Group, Europe’s leading circular-steel producer, recycles scrap in electric-arc furnaces for construction and industrial applications.
